Drakes is a multimedia journalist who has served as photo editor, correspondent, and contributing writer for newspapers, and business, travel and lifestyle magazines. An advertising position at Essence magazine launched his journey in publishing. He has produced an award-winning tourism campaign which led to conceptualizing and producing marketing campaigns for St Kitts, Dominica, Digicel, and HYATT. Travel guide producers Lonely Planet and Insight Guides also validated his sense of aesthetic by licensing his vibrant destination photography. At the turn of the millennium, he added model scout to his resume when he signed Dominique Armorer to Elite Model Management in New York City. The natural progression of his multimedia career evolved to producing short documentaries: Proud to Tell It, Beyond Legendary, and About Boscoe. In 2023, his first photo book, The Last Mas, was published in tribute to an Emmy-winning artist in collaboration with scholars at Cornell University, College of Charleston (SC), Trinity College (CT), and the University of Oregon.
