Bio

Drakes is a multimedia journalist who served as photo editor, correspondent and contributing writer for daily newspapers, and lifestyle, travel and business magazines. A foot-in-the-door position at Essence magazine in NYC launched his journey. A rare proposition lured him to the Caribbean to explore and develop his aesthetic and visual storytelling skills. Drakes produced an award-winning tourism campaign for Trinidad & Tobago, which soon lead to conceptualizing and producing marketing campaigns for St Kitts, Dominica, Digicel and HYATT. Travel guides by Lonely Planet and Insight Guides also validated his visual style by licensing his travel photography. Upon returning to NYC, he signed Dominique Armorer to Elite Model Management in 2000 and added Mother Agent to his skill set. The natural progression of his multimedia career lead to producing the short documentaries Proud to Tell It, Beyond Legendary and About Boscoe. Recently, the acquisition staff at a U.S. university press accepted his first book, The Last Mas, into review.
