The island of Hispaniola is half Spanish, half French and a well-publicized mecca for recruiting baseball talent and lanky, exotic models. But very few know there is a small team who assemble fashion design talents from across South and Central America, Spain and the Caribbean to stage a fashion week event that can rival the ready-to-wear shows in New York and London.
The Dominicana MODA team transforms Hotel Occidental El Embajador from a stately landmark to a haute hangout appointed with slick Philippe Starck furnishings and the vibrancy of the Miami Art Deco district. Latin-techno vibes pour from DJs who serve a tempo for the march of stilettos as fashionistas shuttle between decadent lounges built by Miller Beer, Grey Goose and Johnnie Walker. Daily the shows attract crowds you would expect for a visit from the Pope. After catwalk lights dim and disco balls are lit patrons offer plenty more show.
Designers in this presentation: Belkola, Jusef Sanchez, Juan Cotes, Angie Polanco, Claudia Arce, Moises Quesada, Jeannette Limas, Jacqueline Then, Tatiana Torres, Cub Sexy Man, Guttierez Marcano and Oscar de la Renta.
